The Animation Timeline

From 2015 to current day. (Some older files got lost over time and some clips are unfinished, so not everything in this comp will appear on the page. And it's why some earlier clips are recorded through third-person and not directly on screen.)

NEW
Kitchen Nightmares

I'm very excited to be finished with this massive, nearly two year-long endeavor that was this project. Based on the indie-game title, Little Nightmares. After over a year of working on things that were for school, contests and commissioned work, I wanted to make something that I'd enjoy working on over the Summer. I thought since it's only 1 minute long, that it would take maybe 3-5 months at most. And now, 22 months later, I guess I missed the mark by a few days. Aside from that, I wanted to be able to use all of the animation, lighting, compositing, and staging techniques I learned over the years and turn all that up to eleven. The animation and fluidity of the movement is far from perfect, but I think this is the first animation I've made that I think visually looks good

An Inch Within Extinction

An Inch Within Extinction (AIWE) was the first large-scale project I've made and submitted to The Student Production Awards under the Southwest Rocky Mountain Emmy® Awards. I started working on it in March of 2020 and I hoped to submit it in the 2020 call for entries. But with only 2-3 months to work on it, I wasn't able to finish it by the May 31st deadline. A year passed and I was able to "finish" it in time for the 2021 call for entries. Over the course of those 14 months, I learned a lot about animation techniques, so looking back on it, there are many things I'd like to change and improve. There are also parts toward the end that are very rushed and there's even a scene that had to be taken out entirely to meet the deadline. I'd like to go back and actually finish the film soon but thankfully what I submitted was good enough to receive the award!

First Work

An old relic from simpler days. I never did come up with an official name for it, but I still remember making this and replaying it a thousand times. It was early 2015 and I made it on an app called 'Animation Creation HD'. It's still technically not the first animation I've ever made. The very first was a stop-motion-like skit that I made a month or so before that, where I drew on a piece of paper, took a picture, erased a bit of the drawing, redrew it slightly differently, and then took another picture to create the sense of movement. Incidentally, it was this same plot with these two characters, so this here is the first digitized and colorized clip I've made which was just a better version of the pencil-and-paper original. It looks terrible but it's fun watching it, just remembering this is where it all started.

Who Keeps Using The Phone?

This one was a personal project I got to do in my Graphic Design class around the start of my Freshman year. It took a couple weeks to make, but it was fun since my friends got to watch the progression as it came along. This one was a bit different as it was made entirely with a mouse whereas normally you'd use a drawing tablet for these things. Using a mouse typically takes a lot longer and it doesn't end up looking as good. Still, I thought it was funny and it definitely brings back good memories.

Subnautica (UNFINISHED)

Subnautica is another one that I made in my Graphic Design class and again, was made entirely with a mouse. This time however, I spent several weeks on it. And while I wasn't able to finish it before the end of my Freshman year, I was still somewhat happy with how it turned out.

It's worth mentioning the quality isn't as good since I used Adobe Animate to render it (since that's what my class used) and it doesn't have great built-in rendering capabilities. Normally you'd want to use a third-party rendering software like Swivel or better yet, Adobe Premiere or some other video-editing program to convert .swf to a video format.

The Time Keeper

Based on The Time Keeper book by Mitch Albom. This was for a book report project my Sophomore year. It only covers the first chapter or two of the book since there were time constraints. It's one of, if not the first full-length animations I made using Toon Boom Harmony, so there are many parts where I struggled due to a lack of experience with the software. Combine these two facts and there's definitely a lot of parts that could be heavily improved. Still, I was happy with the turnout, especially considering it was only for a book project.

Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing

A short skit based on Animal Crossing New Leaf. I really appreciate this one, not necessarily because of the animation itself, but because for some reason I almost get this nostalgia feeling when looking at it, even though it's only from a few years ago. There are some really amateur mistakes I made with the animation and background art, but overall I still like the look of it.

GTA San Andreas: Smoke's Order

I was playing GTA San Andres around this time, and there were a few memes circulating that came from this game as well. To me, it seemed like the perfect subject for a cartoon. And like Animal Crossing, this one brings back some kind of nostalgic feeling when I look at it.

Wet Floor

Looking back on this one, I have no idea what the plot here was meant to be, other than don't walk on wet floors? I think I wanted to have one more go at making a more lighthearted themed skit before switching to darker-toned themes like Little Nightmares or AIWE. In all honesty, I wasn't too happy with this one, looking back. It took way longer than it should have given that it was only 44 seconds long. And I don't think it's as funny as when I originally wrote it. The whole thing just revolved around a meme which I think led to a weak plot. It's not one of my favorites but I definitely learned a lot from it.

The C.R.A.A.P TEST 💩

The C.R.A.A.P test is a set of questions written by the Meriam Library from the University of California. It helps with researching information online and verifying its viability. This is also the first official paid commission I've gotten to do.
